Jay, transferred to Camp Upton; classified as a 3, later as a 7; refused to wear uniform; interviewed by the Special Board of Inquiry for disobedience of orders and 96th article of war, probably at Devens [??] in June 1918 and at Leavenworth in July 1918 and at the Disciplinary Barracks [Ft. Leavenworth] on Feb. 14, 1919; court-martialed at Ft. Riley (KS) on Aug. 21, 1918; sentenced to 30 years in prison - reduced to 2 years; imprisoned at Ft. Douglas War Prison Barracks; courts-martial trial #119861; a member of the Socialist Party; grammar school education.
