What You Will Find Here
The focus of the site's offerings has been on material owned by the Swarthmore College Peace Collection (SCPC). These items are almost entirely from non-religious C.O.s, as religious C.O.s tended to deposit their papers at their own religious/denominational archives. There is currently (Sept. 2017) one set of items also from the Friends Historical Library at Swarthmore College (by Quaker Lawrence Williamson).
The SCPC material includes diaries, handwritten and typed letters, memos and telegrams, courts-martial trial records, testimony, photographs, pictures, and newspaper articles. Most of these come from the papers of individuals or the records of the New York Bureau of Legal Advice. As has been possible so far, transcriptions have been added to hand-written items.
It is hoped that in the future material from Mennonite and other archives in eastern Pennsylvania will also be scanned and added here. If other institutions, or individuals, are interested in joining this project, please contact Anne Yoder at ayoder1@swarthmore.edu.
The software Omeka was chosen for delivery of the original scans and the transcriptions.
